Relationships Beat AI in Your Job Search

Relationships Beat AI in Your Job Search

Everyone’s using AI to write cover letters right now. Fine. It’s fast, and it’s usually pretty good.

But AI can’t do the one thing that actually gets you hired: know people.

A well-written resume gets your application read. A relationship gets you the interview before the job is even posted. Those are different problems, and only one of them is solved by a chatbot.

Employers hire from their network first. Referred candidates get interviewed at far higher rates than cold applicants, and a lot of roles never make it to a public job board at all. If your entire job search happens inside an AI tool, you’re optimizing for a stage of the process that most hires skip.

This isn’t an argument against using AI. Use it to tighten your resume, prep for interviews, or research a company fast. Just don’t mistake a polished application for a real advantage.

The advantage is the person on the other side of the table who already knows your name before you apply. Building that relationship takes longer than running a prompt, but it’s what actually moves your application to the top of the pile.
